Building Community: Twenty Influential Women of Hampton, New Hampshire

“Stories of Resilience. Creativity. Womanhood.”

With this latest offering in association with the Hampton Historical Society, local historians Karen Raynes and Mary Ann Nelligan highlight the lives of twenty of Hampton’s most influential women— from those who lived during the earliest years of the town on down to the present day.

Raynes and Nelligan are two of the historical society’s most talented, dedicated, and persevering volunteers. Building Community is a thoroughly researched testament to their flare for writing, as well as their gift for forging meaningful connections between readers and the women who are the subjects of this book. An interesting and informative read.

Thank you for posting the book Building Community Twenty Influential Women of Hampton New Hampshire on your website.

Especially I thank you for all the Hampton history that you have researched and published that allowed Mary Ann and I to better tell the stories of these Hampton women.

Also, your fine-tuned ability to pick up corrections that others did not see is most appreciated.

You are a one-of-a-kind historian, writer and artist. I look forward to your next historical book or other avenues of subject matter for publication.

My pleasure entirely, but thank you for your kind words! It is good to know that my work has been of some use to others. Doing research oftentimes seems mainly a process of separating the truth from the fictions and trying to set the record on a firm historical basis for future researchers. Not that the “fictions” don’t have their place in the town’s long history—I think of them more as the pepper in the plokkfiskur (Icelandic for stew, fun to say); the dish would not be as tasty without them.
